Provide Premium Content Access for Apple Users
With the Podbean + Apple Podcasts Subscriptions integration, you can offer exclusive premium content to Apple users through a subscription fee. This means that your most dedicated listeners can access your premium episodes, special series, or behind-the-scenes content by becoming subscribers. By providing value that your audience can’t resist, you create an additional stream of income while keeping your loyal followers engaged.

The integration offers a seamless experience, allowing you to effortlessly publish and manage your Apple premium content right from your Podbean dashboard. The intuitive interface ensures that you can focus on what you do best – creating amazing podcast content – while we handle the technicalities.
How to Set Up the Apple Podcasts Subscriptions Integration on Podbean
Note: Before creating Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, you will need to meet the following prerequisites.
- Publish at least one episode in mp3 format
- Your podcast is successfully submitted to Apple Podcasts
1. Log into your Podbean dashboard and navigate to Monetization–>Apple Subscription.
2. Click on “ Sign up for Apple Podcasts Subscriptions” to log into your Apple Podcasts Connect account and create an Apple subscription.
3. Once you have set up an Apple Podcasts Subscription, simply click on the option “Download your Apple Podcasts API Key” to save an API key provided by Apple directly to your computer.
4. Click on the button “Upload API Key” then browse your computer to locate and select the key file for uploading.
5. Your Podbean account is now successfully linked to your Apple Podcasts Subscription and you can publish Apple subscriber episodes to Apple Podcasts.
If you wish to disconnect from Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, click on the option “Delete API key” to remove the connection.
Note: Deleting the API key will result in the inability to publish subscriber episodes to Apple Podcasts. However, any previously scheduled subscriber episodes will still be published according to the future time you have set. And you can manage those episodes in your Apple Podcast Connect account if needed.
Publish Premium Content to Apple Subscribers
After uploading your Apple Subscription Key and establishing the connection between Podbean and your Apple Subscription account, you will be able to publish Apple Subscriber episodes to Apple Podcasts through your Podbean Dashboard.
Note: When uploading subscriber episodes to Apple Podcasts, only MP3 files are compatible.
1. Go to your Podbean Channel Dashboard, and click on “Episodes” -> “Episodes List” -> “New Episode” button, click on “Choose File to Upload” or “Select from Account” to upload your media file.
2. Next, on the Episode Publishing page, you can see the “Episode will be” option to set the episode type.
3. In the “Episode will be” field, you can choose the following episode type:
- Free: The episode will be public and available to all listeners and displayed in your podcast feed.
- Apple Subscriber: Your listeners can gain access to the premium content by subscribing and paying a subscription fee on Apple Podcasts.
- Choose “Always”, the episode will always be premium and only available to your listeners who pay a subscription fee on Apple Podcasts.
- Choose “Start”, the episode will be available to all your listeners on Apple Podcasts and on Podbean until the time you set. The episode will become a premium episode after the “Start” date. This time must be later than the episode’s publishing time.
- Choose “Until”, the episode will be available to all your listeners on Apple Podcasts and on Podbean after the time you set. The episode will be exclusive content only to your Apple Podcasts subscribers before the “Until” date. This time must be later than the episode’s publishing time.
- Choose “Always”, the episode will always be premium and only available to your listeners who pay a subscription fee on Apple Podcasts.
- Free and Subscriber: You have the option to upload a subscriber file. By doing that, your Apple subscribers will gain access to the premium content while free listeners will enjoy the public audio version.
4. Provide the episode description or other necessary information. Kindly note that Apple Podcasts does not support rich episode descriptions.
5. Select “Publish Now” or “Schedule Episode” to submit the episode.
The premium episode details will be promptly sent to Apple Podcasts. Please be aware that Apple Podcasts requires some time to process your episodes, and the episode will remain in Draft status in your Apple Podcasts dashboard until it is published by Apple Podcasts.
